FGI is a highly international research institute that conducts innovative research and offers expertise within the field of spatial data.

We are developing techniques related to smart traffic, primarily on the road and at sea as well as pedestrian traffic. We also develop various kinds of techniques for collecting spatial data. Big data and crowdsourcing enable new services and business models in the field of navigation and positioning services.

By working in close co-operation with businesses, universities, research institutes and public agencies, we create opportunities for innovations in measurements, smart traffic, PNT (positioning, navigation & timing), and transfer this knowledge into the society in all levels.

Our researchers are global forerunners in developing and integrating laser, hyperspectral and stereoscopic imaging sensors in versatile platforms such as drones, cars, backpacks and aircrafts. The use of satellites together with other systems for PNT belongs to the core expertise of FGI, including both high-precision applications and robustness against jamming and interference.

FGI develops AI based analytics solutions to derive precise information from big data and integrates in-situ measurements with space data.

Our aim is to facilitate the development of innovations in spatial data, and navigation and positioning technology for the good of society.

We are part of the National Land Survey of Finland.

Ramboll Digital Mobility Lab – Tools for better planning

Ramboll’s Digital Mobility Lab has state-of-the-art mobility modelling tools that will help you achieve efficient transportation flows.

​Planning has become harder than ever, and the current methodologies in use do not support the decision-maker enough. Luckily there is nowadays a lot of data available on user needs and mobility patterns to make new kind of analysis. Decision-making can be made more rational and pre-emptive.

Our BRUTUS helps transport planners to analyze multi-modal transport demand at the individual level. Urban structure is represented with a dense land-use data set and connected with a multi-modal transport network. The simulation examines the profiles of the households in the urban structure and replicates them and their activities utilizing the travel survey sample. All activities resulting in travel demand of the simulated individuals are modeled as travel chains and generated trips assigned to the transport modes and routes.

BRUTUS can closely represent how everyone is likely to travel in the transport system.  Thus, we can trace back simulated people throughout all the travel and activities during the day using any mode, including new mobility services. Infrastructure provides a platform for growth

Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency concentrates on planning, developing, and maintaining state owned road, rail, and maritime transport infrastructure and the coordination of transport and land-use. In addition, it is also responsible for arranging traffic control and winter navigation. FTIA will operate in the planning of transport systems as the primary partner of regional councils, municipalities, urban regions, and other players.

Intelligent Transportation Society of Finland – ITS Finland is a forum which brings together over 110 representatives from various areas of business, education, and government to work for the digitalisation of transportation and mobility.
